The Academy Awards will be held tonight.
We will tune in early for the fashion and then NPH will take the stage and once again blow us all away with his talent.
I predict at the end of the night, Neil Patrick Harris will be compared to Hope, Carson and Crystal, the giants who kept the show moving with class and humor.
This year, many of the awards are pretty close to being a shoe-in. I think three of the acting awards are pretty well set in stone, as is the directing award.
In my opinion, the two big awards that are still toss-ups are Best Actor and Best Picture.
With that said, here are my predictions…….
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS:
- Patricia Arquette – Boyhood as Olivia Evans
- Laura Dern – Wild as Barbara “Bobbi” Grey
- Keira Knightley – The Imitation Game as Joan Clarke
- Emma Stone – Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) as Sam Thomson
- Meryl Streep – Into the Woods as The Witch
And the Oscar Goes To…..
PATRICIA ARQUETTE
Boyhood
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR:
- Robert Duvall – The Judge as Judge Joseph Palmer
- Ethan Hawke – Boyhood as Mason Evans, Sr.
- Edward Norton – Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) as Mike Shiner
- Mark Ruffalo – Foxcatcher as Dave Schultz
- J. K. Simmons – Whiplash as Terence Fletcher
And the Oscar Goes To….
J.K. SIMMONS
Whiplash
BEST ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE:
- Marion Cotillard – Two Days, One Night as Sandra Bya
- Felicity Jones – The Theory of Everything as Jane Wilde Hawking
- Julianne Moore – Still Alice as Dr. Alice Howland
- Rosamund Pike – Gone Girl as Amy Elliott-Dunne
- Reese Witherspoon – Wild as Cheryl Strayed
And the Oscar Goes To….
JULIANNE MOORE
Still Alice
BEST ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE:
- Steve Carell – Foxcatcher as John Eleuthère du Pont
- Bradley Cooper – American Sniper as Chris Kyle
- Benedict Cumberbatch – The Imitation Game as Alan Turing
- Michael Keaton – Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) as Riggan Thomson / Birdman
- Eddie Redmayne – The Theory of Everything as Stephen Hawking
THIS is the exciting acting race. Keaton and Redmayne have been going back and forth all awards season, but Cooper was left out of the running in most of the other awards competitions.
Cooper starred in the only real “hit” of those nominated. Cooper is also a favorite of the Academy with multiple nominations.
I see this as a three-man race, with Keaton and Redmayne the “favorites” but Cooper the spoiler. Who will win?
And the Oscar Goes To….
BRADLEY COOPER
American Sniper
Best Director:
- Wes Anderson – The Grand Budapest Hotel
- Alejandro González Iñárritu – Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)
- Richard Linklater – Boyhood
- Bennett Miller – Foxcatcher
- Morten Tyldum – The Imitation Game
And the Oscar Goes To….
RICHARD LINKLATER
Boyhood
BEST PICTURE:
- American Sniper – Clint Eastwood, Robert Lorenz, Andrew Lazar, Bradley Cooper, and Peter Morgan
- Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) – Alejandro González Iñárritu, John Lesher, and James W. Skotchdopole
- Boyhood – Richard Linklater and Cathleen Sutherland
- The Grand Budapest Hotel – Wes Anderson, Scott Rudin, Steven Rales, and Jeremy Dawson
- The Imitation Game – Nora Grossman, Ido Ostrowsky, and Teddy Schwarzman
- Selma – Christian Colson, Oprah Winfrey, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner
- The Theory of Everything – Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Lisa Bruce, and Anthony McCarten
- Whiplash – Jason Blum, Helen Estabrook, and David Lancaster
Another toss-up. The favorites are Birdman and Boyhood.
Boyhood’s director, Richard Linklater will win the directing award because of his 12 year commitment to an excellent film. This will leave the Best Picture Award to its main competition.
And the Oscar Goes To….
BIRDMAN (THE UNEXPECTED VIRTUE OF IGNORANCE)
Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, John Lesher, and James W. Skotchdopole
Ok folks, now you know who will win. Sit back and enjoy the show and when I am wrong, just tell me you told me so!
